The day began with the annual Alumni Run.  With a strong showing of alums, Austin Ramos, Class of ‘03 returned to action after a 5 year absence to reclaim the title with a time of 14:03 to edge Charlie Brenneman, Class of ‘96 who finished in 14:11.  Last year’s winner, Chris DeWitt, Class of ‘98 finished 3rd.  We look forward to an even stronger field of alums next year.  This year’s race was run in honor of Fr. Kiley Stolz, SJ, long time team chaplain who passed away on July 21.

Under ideal running conditions, the Jesuit Harriers kicked off their season with their annual Meeting of the Marauders.  From the start sophomore Matt Strangio made it clear that he was going for a fast time coming through the mile at app. 4:55.  That strategy paid off as Matt extended his lead finishing in a sophomore record time of 13:53 to eclipse the 13:56 time of John Wihtol run in 2001.  Matt’s winning time also tied him for 12th fastest time ever run on the course with Phil McKennan from 2006. This year’s top 5 consisting of sophomore Matt Strangio, Juniors Colin Ryan and Miles Worthen, Senior Jordan Rahe, and newcomer Junior Gabe Lovely recorded a team time of 73:19 to rank number 15 on the Jesuit all-time list.  Juniors Seamus Caslin and Russell Kustic rounded out the top 7.  In the class competition, the Junior class impressed, with juniors finishing 2, 3, 5, 6, and 7 to record 23 points (team time 75:37 – 7th all-time) to easily distance themselves from the sophomores who finished second with  1, 12, 13, 14, 16 = 56 points (team time 78:31 – 9th all time).  The senior class was on their heels with 59 points, with the freshman tallying 112 points.  The top Senior finisher was Jordan Rahe, top Junior finisher was Colin Ryan, and the top Freshman finisher was Joe Ryan.  With a couple key runners sitting out this past weekend with minor injuries, the Marauders will hopefully be back at full strength when they travel to Vacaville on September 2 to compete in the Lagoon Valley Classic.
