Jesuit High School is a four-year college preparatory conducted by the Society of Jesus (Jesuits).  Enrollment is at capacity and includes a senior class of 267.  Admission is selective: approximately 70% of the applicant pool is admitted each year.  Traditionally, 98-100% of our graduates go immediately to college, 88-90% to four-year institutions, approximately 38% to private colleges and universities.  Sixty-three percent of the Jesuit professional and certificated staff hold a Master’s Degree or higher.

Accreditation

Jesuit High School of Sacramento is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) and the Western Catholic Education Association (WCEA).  The current term of WASC accreditation is six years, through 2014.  Jesuit is a member of the College Board, the Jesuit Secondary Education Association (49 high schools in the United States) and the National Association for College Admission Counseling.

Community Profile

The school’s campus straddles the dividing line between the city of  Sacramento and the suburban district known as Carmichael.  It draws students from more than 70 local elementary and junior high schools.  Twenty-five percent of the student body commutes a distance greater than 20 miles.  Nearly 200 students receive tuition assistance and participate in a work-study program.  Jesuit has an ethnically diverse student body with a 32% minority population.

Graduation Requirements

Jesuit’s graduation requirements include:

• 8 semesters of English 
• 6 semesters of Foreign Language
• 6 semesters of Mathematics (90% take eight semesters or more, 30% take Calculus while in high school)
• 5 semesters of Laboratory Science (90% take seven semesters or more)
• 7 semesters of Social Studies
• 6 semesters of Theology 
• 3 semesters of Physical Education/Health, and/or Music
• 2 semesters of Visual and Performing Arts 
• 1 semester of Community Service and at least 2 semesters of other college preparatory electives

Honors and AP Courses available to the Class of 2012

Students are restricted to no more than two Ahonors@ and/or AP classes in their sophomore and junior years and no more than three Ahonors@ and/or AP classes in their senior year.  Exceptions to this rule are made only after the student and parent file a petition which is reviewed and approved by the student=s counselor and the school administration.

Grade Point Average / Class Rank

Upon request, the school will report a cumulative grade point average based on all academic work accomplished at Jesuit High School from grade ten onward.  This GPA will be given on either a traditional 4 point scale or a weighted honors scale (additional grade point for each AP or honors class).  We do not compute student rank.  A student=s decile rank in class can be determined by his regular or honors GPA (for reference, see Class of 2012 distribution below).

Over the past two years (2010-2011), 469 students sat for 865 AP tests with 85% receiving grades of “3″ or better.

National Merit Program

In the last five years, 24 members of the classes of 2007-2012 were named National Merit Semi Finalists and 62 seniors were named Commended Students.  The National Hispanic Scholar Recognition Program recognized 26 Jesuit students and 5 students were named African-American National Achievement Scholars for a grand total of 117 students recognized over five years.  (The Class of 2011 has 18 students who qualified for these various honors.)
