In the tradition of St. Ignatius of Loyola, the founder of the Society of Jesus, Jesuit education is committed to the development of the whole person through a challenging educational experience of academic excellence, co-curricular involvement, and spiritual and religious formation. The entire school program is dedicated to developing conscientious leaders and agents of change who are intellectually distinguished, morally courageous, and compassionate in service to others for the greater glory of God.
The Phelan Chapel provides a welcome and long anticipated sacred space on campus which will be available to our students and faculty members. The chapel’s primary purpose will be to support already existing theological and liturgical programs at Jesuit High School.
Design and Build
The internationally acclaimed firm of Hodgetts + Fung Design and Architecture was selected after an extensive search to provide the concept plans for the Chapel and adjoining property in 2007. Jesuit High School received unanimous approval from the Sacramento County Board of Supervisors for the project on August 10, 2013. This followed up on the unanimous decision of the Sacramento County Planning Commission in favor of the project. Swinerton Builders was selected to serve as the General Contractor and completion of the Chapel and adjoining property was late summer 2014.
