Two major boys basketball tournaments, each offering something special, will be held in the same neighborhood Thursday through Saturday.

Jesuit hosts its 38th annual Father Barry Christmas Tournament in Carmichael. Rio Americano, less than a mile from Jesuit on American River Drive, is putting on its 37th annual Jack Scott Tournament.
Among the teams entered in the Father Barry tournament are:

• Texas power Strake Jesuit of Houston, led by Duke signee Rasheed Sulaimon and Arkansas-Little Rock signee John Gillon.
• Bishop Manogue of Reno, which reached the 4A Nevada state title game last season.

• Two-time defending D-III CIF Northern California Regional champion Bishop O’Dowd of Oakland, led by 6-foot-7 wing Richard Longrus, a Washington State signee.

• Two-time Sac-Joaquin Section D-I champion Sheldon, featuring a talented junior class that includes three-year varsity players D’Erryl Williams and Dakarai Allen.
First-round pairings are: Bishop O’Dowd vs. Eisenhower-Rialto, 3:45 p.m.; Oakland Tech vs. Strake Jesuit, 5:15 p.m.; Jesuit vs. Bishop Manogue 6:45 p.m.; Sheldon vs. St. Ignatius-San Francisco, 8:15 p.m.

The Jack Scott event also will feature a special wrinkle.

The Kings will produce Saturday’s 8 p.m. title game by providing the announcer, mascot, music and dance team.

Today’s first-round pairings are: Center vs. El Camino, 3:30 p.m.; Kennedy vs. Foothill, 5 p.m.; Roseville vs. Rio Americano, 6:45 p.m. and Oak Ridge vs. Monterey Trail, 8 p.m.
The nightcap is a rematch of last season’s tournament title game, won 65-40 by Oak Ridge.
