Marauders Finish 2nd at De La Salle Invite

The Marauders showed off their depth Saturday at the De La Salle/Carondolet Invitational in Concord with four runner-up finishes and a win in the JV Boys race despite being hampered with illnesses and injuries. Senior Colin Ryan finished 6th in the Varsity race in 15:55 with senior Antonio Vargas showing strength in 14th in 16:07. Seniors took the next four spots as well with Anthony Rogado impressing in 25th in 16:26, Gabe Lovely in 31st in 16:34, Miles Worthen in 35th in 16:41 and Colin Brannan in 44th in 16:51. Junior JT Leach battled through a calf injury in 94th in 17:45. The team finished 2nd behind Amador Valley 83-111 with De La Salle in 3rd with 126 points.

The JV team raced to a tie with Dougherty Valley but won on the 6th man tiebreaker for Jesuit’s sole win of the day. Senior Todd Russell took the lead after the hill and never looked back, winning the race in 11:06. Junior Connor King earned his second runner-up finish of the season in 11:12 and senior Seamus Caslin returned to form in 5th, running 11:21. Senior Russell Kustic placed 11th in 11:30, senior Bobby Canalas placed 14th in 11:42, and junior Eric Huitt broke the 33-point tie in 27th, running 12:02. Junior Ryan Rush was 55th in 12:32. 

The frosh-soph squad placed second to Granada behind sophomore Michael Chambers’ 7th place finish in 11:42. Freshman Tyler Offerman placed 14th in 11:50 while freshmen Ian King and Gavin Joaquin came in together in 22nd and 23rd, respectively, at 12:02. Sophomore Joe Ryan ran 12:04 for 28th, freshman Spencer Morrison was 38th in 12:10 and freshman Cameron Cleland was 43rd in 12:12. 

In the unlimited races, freshman Braden King  won the frosh-soph division in 12:01 and freshman Harley Sherman was 2nd in 12:14 to lead their team to a 2nd place finish behind Granada. Junior Demetri Petuskey was 2nd in 11:34 and junior Talon Krieger was 5th in 11:50 for the JV team that finished 2nd behind Dougherty Valley.

The Marauders train through next week and return to action on Wednesday, September 26th for the Delta League Meet at 9:00am at Cherry Island Sport Complex.
