On a cold but sunny day in Orinda, CA, the Jesuit Varsity Rugby Red team took on an eager Lamorinda team. Lead by Sam Schwartz in the forwards and Jack Marchant in the backs, the scoring opened early with hard running and skilled passing from the Jesuit side. The Red side was dangerous on attack, with many players looking to offload out of contact and keep the pressure on the Running Rodents. Hard runs from the forwards Max Richins, Sione Nauvai, and Ben and Nathan Fettig found The Marauders on the front foot often. In defense, it was the mid field of Nick Sottosanti and Ethan Klein which kept the pressure on Lamorinda. Hard work by them and the forward pack kept the Lamorinda team to a single try. The final score was 54-5, Jesuit.

“It was a full team effort today, and it was great to see every athlete get an opportunity to showcase some of the elements of our training we have been focusing on”, commented backs coach Mark Fuller post game. “Our Red squad is the heart of this program. Their ability to provide quality depth ultimately determines the success of our program at the end of the year. Today’s match was encouraging that they have and will continue to improve to keep the pressure on the guys ahead of them to do the same.”
