Fr. Suwalsky, S.J. grew up in Leavenworth, Kansas and entered the Society of Jesus in 1983. He was ordained in 1995. His academic background includes degrees from Rockhurst University, Saint Louis University, the Weston School of Theology, and Harvard University. He was awarded a Ph.D. in American Studies from Saint Louis University in 2010. Prior to his coming to Jesuit High School, he was the treasurer of the Jesuits of the Missouri Province. He has been a teacher and administrator at St. Louis University High School, Rockhurst High School and Saint Louis University and has been active in parish and retreat ministry.

The Chapel of the North American Martyrs will serve as the spiritual heart of the Jesuit High School campus.  It will be a dramatic liturgical and devotional landmark that reflects the traditions of the school’s Catholic faith and Ignatian heritage and spirituality.  While its interior design will allow for liturgical flexibility, the endowed Chapel will be a campus space uniquely dedicated to worship, prayer, and spiritual enrichment.  Its art and architecture, characterized by luminous warmth and intimacy, will invite and lead students and the larger Jesuit High School Community to an experience of God, the holy and transcendent, and inspire greater faith, hope, love and holiness.

The Chapel will become the newest resource ~ and one of the most important ~ in supporting Jesuit’s commitment to spirituality and religion.  When combined with academic excellence and co-curricular involvement, Jesuit continues its dedication to its mission of “developing conscientious leaders and agents of change who are intellectually distinguished, morally courageous, and compassionate in service to others for the greater glory of God.”

Our Chapel will announce to all who come to Jesuit why we do what we do.

The Chapel of the North American Martyrs project at Jesuit High School includes property acquisition, site preparation, new school entrance, driveway and traffic signal, construction of The Chapel, plaza, plantings, infrastructure costs, and maintenance endowment.

Dear Friends,

Welcome to the online information resource of Jesuit High School. I encourage you to learn more about us through this web site.

In Plato’s great work, The Republic, he wrote, “The direction in which education starts a man will determine his future in life.” Since 1963, more than 8,000 young men have chosen Jesuit High School as the starting point for their future in life. In turn, the faculty and staff of Jesuit have offered young men the opportunity to discover their God-given talents. Through those years, we have seen our students and our graduates make significant contributions to the life of our community as men of faith who seek for justice and who work to make a positive difference wherever they find themselves.

We understand that learning extends beyond the classroom finding additional opportunity in athletic competition and in the arts. We know, too, that our good fortune must be shared and our school community reaches out to those whose experience of life, while perhaps more difficult, is also most precious. Intellectual competence, possession of a well-formed conscience, and the desire for compassionate encounters with others, are the defining traits of our students and graduates.

I encourage you to make plans to visit us at Jesuit High School one day so that we might welcome you to our campus.
