Introducing Comprehensive Counseling
The philosophy of the Jesuit High School Counseling Department is rooted firmly in the Jesuit concept of cura personalis, that is, to address the needs of each individual. Therefore, this comprehensive counseling program seeks to meet the personal, academic, college and career needs of our students.
In the Jesuit tradition of cura personalis, caring for the whole person, the Counseling Department at Jesuit High School includes Wellness Counselors on campus as part of layered student support.
Wellness Counselors aim to provide short term, solution-based counseling and focus on creating a safe place where students may get support and assistance in problem solving. Wellness works closely with the student’s primary counselor, meets with students on an individual basis, runs student small groups, and maintains the Wellness programming for our school community.
Students may connect with a Wellness Counselor by reaching out to their Comprehensive Counselor or by making a self-referral.

Counseling Groups & Assignments
Groups
Make sure you double-check your Counseling Group in PowerSchool. Find your group letter by logging into the online PowerSchool portal (not the app). Next to the student’s name, click on the red colored dot, which indicates the counseling group. Counseling Groups have meetings throughout the year — most often during Collaboration Periods. Students are responsible for knowing their assignments and must attend these collaboration sessions.
Assignments are posted at the beginning of the academic year by grade.
Yes. Students are assigned a counselor at Orientation of their first year and will work with the same counselor throughout their Jesuit High School journey.
Counselors guide students through the college admissions process beginning freshman year and walk alongside them until they graduate senior year. Counselors work with students to build their knowledge of the college search, finding their fit, how to create the college list, planning for testing, financial aid and scholarships. Future planning is individualized to meet the needs of a student where he is and achieve his goals. The Sacramento Private and Parochial Schools College Fair, Jesuit Excellence Tour, College Information Night, and Paying for College Financial Aid events are hosted each fall. In addition, approximately 100 college admission representatives visit campus each fall to meet with interested students from all grade levels.
Counselors will meet with students multiple times in groups during Collaboration Meetings plus a minimum of one individual required meeting. Students are encouraged and empowered to request additional time with their counselor or drop in to our Counseling Center for questions, resources, and to say hello.
