This decision reflects a mission-driven evolution to serve more families while preserving Jesuit’s core identity, rooted in 500 years of Ignatian education. It allows Jesuit to educate both young men and women as “Men and Women for Others,” strengthening our community and ensuring the school’s long-term financial and enrollment sustainability. This change will position Jesuit to serve future generations with strength, integrity, and vision. 

Board actions focus on the organization’s future. They acted now to:

• Provide long-term financial sustainability
• Expand mission richness
• Firmly position Jesuit for the future

As the governing body responsible for policy, financial oversight, and the strategic direction of the school, the Board of Trustees engaged in a discernment process guided by Jesuit values, and a comprehensive organizational review. The process included:

• Analysis of enrollment trends, tuition data, and financial Key Performance Indicators.
• Review of strategic frameworks and SWOT analyses from previous strategic planning done by the Board of Trustees
• Analysis of various financial models, cost-cutting measures, and alternative educational structures—many of which mirrored the comprehensive strategic planning conducted in 2021–2022
• Consideration of community interest  from Catholic families seeking a Jesuit (Ignatian) education for daughters
• Consultation with the Jesuits West Provincial 

Although the Board’s decision-making process was not public, it was guided by alignment with Jesuit’s mission and values, and a focus on ensuring the school’s long-term health and success

Jesuit High School anticipates gradual enrollment growth as it expands to serve both boys and girls, with a long-term target capacity of approximately 1,100 students.

The Board’s decision is final and is a testament to Jesuit Sacramento’s unwavering commitment to this direction. Jesuit is now focused on thoughtful implementation and on preparing to welcome young women for the 2027–2028 school year.

Jesuit High School Sacramento will continue to operate under the guidance of the Society of Jesus (Jesuits) and remain grounded in the principles that have historically shaped Jesuit education worldwide, including the Universal Apostolic Preferences and Our Way of Proceeding. As part of the global Jesuit network of schools, Jesuit remains committed to forming Men and Women for Others who lead with competence, conscience, compassion, and character.

This mission, these values, and these traditions will remain at the heart of Jesuit High School. Since its founding, Jesuit has been committed to educating students morally, ethically, academically, and physically, preparing them for success in college, careers, and lives of service.

The co-divisional model is designed to build upon and strengthen that mission, not replace it. What makes Jesuit distinctive—its commitment to faith, scholarship, service, leadership, and community—will remain unchanged.

Today, as throughout its history, Jesuit's focus remains on providing an exceptional Catholic, Jesuit, college preparatory education rooted in the same mission that has guided the school for generations.

After reflecting and discerning the future of Jesuit High School Sacramento, the Board of Trustees is inspired to create an opportunity for young women to experience the gifts of Jesuit education.

Our reflection was informed by the changing landscape in which our students live after their secondary school experience. It is imperative to imagine a new model of education that is responsive to the needs of the individual learner and the contemporary world.

As fiduciaries of Jesuit Sacramento, the Board of Trustees is responsible for the school’s long-term financial viability. The co-divisional model promotes enrollment accessibility, revenue predictability, and long-term sustainability.

Competence, conscience, compassion, and commitment

Jesuit Sacramento builds a foundation for life for its students through these four pillars of Ignatian education. With the addition of a Girls Division, it can now expand that foundation and form well-rounded individuals—both girls and boys—preparing them not only for academic success but also for lives of purpose and service.
