For Current Juniors: Summer Service Info
Presentations are complete. See below for information and forms.
In addition to the service immersion programs that take place during summer, there are many other great opportunities for our Seniors to fulfill their 50-hour Senior service requirement, such as a guided project through the Christian Service Summer Course, an Independent Study, and summer camps for youth in need. For each of our summer programs, we require “direct contact with a marginalized community” while also providing a reflection component that allows our students to discern why service is important, how their faith can be strengthened, and how they can truly become “A Man for Others.” At the beginning of February we held Service Information Week for current Juniors to learn more about the application process for the different opportunities. Attendance was strongly encouraged as applications and deadlines were provided.

1. Parent signature form and fee were due to Mrs. Barnes by
2/17. Interviews are complete and students have been
notified by CampRec regarding which week they will serve. The
mandatory training meeting for all new volunteers will be Sunday,
May 21, 1-5 pm at the Ronald McDonald House Charities
Office located at 2555 49th Street, Sacramento, CA
95817 (major cross streets – Stockton & Broadway, behind the
UCD Med Center). Transportation for volunteers to and from
camp is provided. All volunteers are required to ride the bus to
and from camp. All departures and returns will take place at a
location to be determined and announced at the training.
All paperwork (volunteer applications and immunization records) are due at the meeting. If you have been selected but are unable to volunteer, please contact the Camp office at 916.733.0136 as soon as possible.
Independent Study is a great option for students who are self-motivated and have a passion for service. Students may propose a service project which involves at least 50-hours of direct contact service to people who are in some way marginalized. Parent signature form and fee were due to Mrs. Barnes by 2/17. Online proposal form was due to Mrs. Barnes by 3/22.
PLEASE NOTE: While we encourage a lifetime of service, only students entering their Senior year who are pre-approved by Mrs. Barnes during Spring, 2017, for the Christian Service Summer Course, an Independent Study, a service camp or a JHS immersion, who complete the course paperwork, and who pay the course fee will be granted credit for the hours they volunteer during Summer 2017. All assignments are due within 7 days of return from the immersion, camp or completion of service, or July 28, whichever comes first.
Rising Seniors who opt not to pursue summer service will be enrolled in the 3rd period Christian Service course during the 2017-2018 school year.
Entering Freshmen, rising Sophomores and rising Juniors, while encouraged to serve wherever they are needed, are not permitted to “count” their summer service hours toward the JHS commitment of 16 hours each year. Required JHS Christian Service hours are completed in the context of the school year and incorporated into the curriculum.
