Cross Country Dominates Bronco Invitational

The varsity cross country team won the Bronco Invite Saturday at Springview Park by 90 points over second place Bella Vista. Senior Colin Ryan led the race with a pack of three other athletes and pulled away at the finish to take his first major invitational victory in 15:32. Senior Antonio Vargas led the chase pack with his 5th place finish in 16:00 and junior Chase Gordon followed in 7th in 16:07. Seniors Anthony Rogado and Miles Worthen finished a second apart in 11th and 13th, respectively, in 16:17 and 16:18 and senior Colin Brannan, junior Connor King and senior Seamus Caslin finished in 25th, 26th and 27th in 16:54, 16:54 and 16:55 to put 8 runners ahead of every other team’s third finisher. The Marauders scored a mere 37 points in their win over Bella Vista (127) and Granite Bay (186).

The JV Boys also took both team and individual honors with a near sweep, taking 5 of the top 7 places. Junior Talon Krieger notched his first race win in 17:32 ahead of junior Demetri Petuskey in 17:41. Senior Russell Kustic finished in 4th in 17:45, just ahead of junior Martin Smith in 17:46 and senior Bobby Canalas in 17:50. Junior Eric Huitt placed 14th in 18:31 and junior Ryan Rush was 34th in 19:37. Jesuit scored 19 points in its win over 2nd place Bella Vista and 3rd place Vista Del Lago. 

The frosh-soph boys placed third in a tight race with Bella Vista and Buchanan where first and third were separated by 8 points. Sophomore Michael Chambers led the Marauders in 10th in 12:27 over the 3.7km course. Freshman Tyler Offerman was 19th in 12:38 while freshman Gavin Joaquin was 22nd in 12:44. The Marauders showed depth with sophomore Joe Ryan, sophomore Tommy Gee and freshman Harley Sherman waking 27th-29th in 12:47, 12:48, and 12:49, respectively, to get 6 runners in ahead of Bella Vista’s 5th and Buchanan’s 4th, but it was not enough to overcome their rivals’ firepower up front. Freshman Cameron Cleland rounded out the top 7 in 12:51. 

In the frosh-soph unlimited race, sophomore Michael Gamette led the team with his third place finish in 13:25. Sophomore Lukas Crawford placed 5th in 13:28, freshmen Diego Levenfeld was 6th in 13:29 and freshman Spencer Morrison was 16th in 13:52. Freshman Drew McDonald finished 25th in 14:07 and freshman Giovanni Sloppye was 26th in 14:08. Freshman Ryan McNeil was 41st for the Marauders in 14:25. The team took second to Bella Vista 27-54.

The Marauders take to the track on Wednesday October 17th at Jesuit for the Hoka One One 2-mile Postal Event.
