Galley Crew
Jesuit High School has a long and proud tradition of supporting the Marauders in various competitions. This deep-rooted enthusiasm manifests itself in the form of the Galley Crew, which is a source of pride for students, faculty and staff, parents, alums and benefactors. The Galley Crew can be seen and heard at Jesuit competitions, cheering the Marauders on to victory. All Jesuit High School students are welcome in the Galley Crew.
Cheerleaders
The head cheerleader is an elected representative of the Jesuit High School Executive Council. He is charged with organizing and leading the cheerleaders. The cheerleaders are appointed by the Executive Council and are responsible for leading the Galley Crew as they support the Marauders in competition.
Student Government
The members of the Jesuit High School Executive Council are the school’s elected representatives. The Executive Council is responsible for promoting efficient communication between the students, the faculty, and the administration. They help organize the student body so that it may act with one voice on academic, athletic, social and other affairs.
In addition, members of the Executive Council assist with the coordination of co-curricular activities and encourage the development of school spirit through participation.
Dances & Formal Events
Dress code, dance rules & behavior for open and formal dances
Throughout the year, Jesuit may host formal events, open dances and formal dances. Students are expected to act respectfully at all times including dancing in a style and fashion that is consistent with the expectations of Jesuit High School.
For all formal events & dances, students must purchase a ticket in advance and have a current student body card.
Please refer to your current Parent Student Handbook for further information regarding dance policies.
Dances are normally held from 7:00-10:00 p.m. No students will be admitted after 8:00 p.m. and no students may leave before 9:30 p.m. Any student left at the dance without a ride home beyond 30 minutes after the scheduled end time is subject to a taxi ride home at the parent’s expense.
Open Dances
Jesuit, Christian Brothers, Cristo Rey and Saint Francis hold age-appropriate dances throughout the school year. All four schools have accepted a common set of expectations and practices to help provide the best possible environment for healthy social interaction between the schools. These dances are open to Catholic High School students only.
Formal Dances
Jesuit’s guest dances (homecoming, junior prom and senior ball) are open to Jesuit High School students and their guests. Jesuit High School students may bring a guest from any school. Any guest who does not attend St. Francis, Christian Brothers or Cristo Rey must complete a Guest Pass form. A Jesuit High School student may also attend a guest dance without a guest and may purchase an individual bid at a reduced rate.
The Jesuit High School dress code is modified for dances. Jeans, athletic shoes, and non-collared shirts are permitted.
Students wearing the following will not be admitted:
Shorts, skirts, pants, and dresses that are too short (i.e. no higher than above the middle of the thigh) or “low rise.” Leggings do not change the length rule.
Halter or backless, tube or strapless, one shoulder, crop tops or spaghetti strap tops.
Clothing that sags, bags, or is low-cut that exposes undergarments or skin.
Clothing with references to alcohol, sex, drugs, gangs, racist, sexist or other derogatory sayings or references.
Any manner of hand-decorated apparel.
Appropriate dress is determined by host school staff. If a specific dress code is required for a dance, it will be announced in advance.
Formal means conservative, formal attire. Students and guests are to wear the following:
Everyone is to wear dress shoes (absolutely no tennis shoes). A second pair of dancing shoes will be allowed.
A tuxedo/ suit/ sport coat and tie or a formal dress.
Halter, strapless and spaghetti strap dresses are allowed. Dresses must not be higher than above the middle of the thigh, and slits cannot be open more than above the mid thigh. Dresses are to be modest, in good taste and appropriate. Absolutely no short, tight dresses are appropriate for a formal dance. Appropriate undergarments for the type of dress are to be worn. Dresses with low backs must not go below the middle of the back.
Semi-formal is similar to the dress code of a formal dance, but a few exceptions are made. All formal dance details apply except for the following:
Students do not need a tie or jacket (though these are recommended). However, they are still expected to wear slacks or dress pants and a long sleeve dress shirt.
Semi-formal dresses are permitted. The aforementioned dress regulations still apply.
Clean, dressy tennis shoes are permitted.
Students or guests out of dress code will be sent home after their parents and school administrators have been notified.
