On a clear warm evening on the famed blue turf of Folsom High school the Marauders sought to spoil the non-league opponents home opener. The challenging match-up for the Freshman Marauders started with a few costly turnovers and the team struggled to maintain the precision spread offense of the Bulldogs who ran off 42 unanswered points in the first half. Luke Williams provided steady play with a couple of early pass receptions and several solid tackles, as well as consistently well placed punts. Pace Walden chipped in with several strong key runs to close out a difficult first half. The Marauders just couldn’t seem to get out from their own end of the field for most of the first two quarters of play.

The Big Red team settled down a bit in the second half. Jagger Saca made several solid runs and caught a key pass from quarterback Daniel Susac to maintain a drive midway through the second half. Inspired by some powerful runs in the fourth quarter by Parker Breen, the team lead a sustained drive late to the delight of the many boisterous Marauders fans in attendance. Maddox Martinez put the Marauders on the board with his first touchdown catch of the season on a toss from Susac. Susac encountered constant pressure all night yet maintained his composure and overcame a tough Bulldog defense to toss the short touchdown pass to close out the scoring. Chris Baytosh ended a late Folsom drive with an acrobatic interception near midfield.

Several Marauders made solid contributions throughout the game. Malachi Martinez made a number of big play saving tackles. Constantine (Tino) Foondos proved an unmovable force on the D-Line and made several key stops for short yardage as the Bulldog offense continued to open up the field with their vaunted spread offense. The night ended as a tough loss for the Freshman Marauders; final score Folsom 57, JHS 7. The team left the stadium fired up and ready to go to work preparing for Holy Bowl week and the all-important annual match up with the Falcons of Christian Brothers at Hughes Stadium next Saturday, September 10th at 2:00 PM.
