The Jesuit varsity water polo team just wrapped up their busiest week of the season, playing a total of six games over the week. Things got off to a good start this past Tuesday when the Marauders hosted their first Delta league contest of the season, beating Franklin High by a score of 18 to 3. Fifteen different players scored for Jesuit, with juniors Spencer Bei and Max Cannata and senior Jack Jenkins each scoring two goals. Bei also added six steals in strong defensive effort. Following the Franklin game, Jesuit capped off Tuesday by beating Sac-Joaquin section rival Granite Bay 14 to 4. Junior Ivan Soshnikov lead Jesuit with two goals, four assists, and five steals. Senior Joe Cavazos and junior Cody Ferguson also contributed four goals apiece to help Jesuit beat the Grizzlies.
Jesuit then travelled south to Irvine where the Marauders competed with some of the country’s top high school programs in the S&R Invitational. The tournament opened Friday with Jesuit playing Dana Hills High School, losing 5 to 11. Following their opening loss, the Marauders won their first game in the consolation bracket, beating Clovis West 10 to 5. Saturday saw Jesuit lose a close game 8 to 10 to Los Osos High before bouncing back to finish strong by beating Los Alamitos High 10 to 9. After going 2-2  during the weekend, the Marauders claimed third place in the consolation bracket or 11th place overall. Joe Cavazos lead the Marauders with 20 goals over the weekend and eight steals. Ivan Soshnikov added six goals and four assists, and seniors Jacob Boe and Reed Caron both added three goals apiece over the weekend.
Following a 4 win and 2 loss week, Jesuit’s overall record stands at  12-4 for the season. This coming week sees the Marauders host Bella Vista High School at 5 pm on Wednesday. Prior to the start of the game, there will be a ceremony to recognize the team’s graduating seniors. Friday and Saturday, Jesuit will host the Jesuit Capital Classic at American River College during which the varsity squad will face off against Los Altos High (11 am Friday), Clovis High (3:40 pm Friday), Christian Brothers (11:30 am Saturday), and Clovis North (3:00 pm Saturday).
