Keynote Speaker

Dr. Thomas Russell ’86 (Todd ’19)

Watch for more heartfelt testimony from Dr. Russell in other communications this summer.

Born and raised in Sacramento, Tom’s academic journey began at St. Ignatius Parish School before he continued to Jesuit High School. Graduating in 1986, Tom then ventured south to UC San Diego, where he not only pursued his studies but also discovered a lifelong partner in Deb, whom he married shortly after.

After earning his degree in cell biology with a minor in Theatre from UC San Diego in 1991, Tom and Deb moved across the country to Albany, NY. There, Tom attended medical school and completed his residency in emergency medicine. Deb obtained her master’s degree and worked with regional companies developing international trade.

In 1999, with their newborn daughter Claire in tow, Tom and Deb returned home to Sacramento, where Tom began his tenure as an emergency physician at Kaiser Permanente, a role he continues to fulfill with compassion and expertise.

Like their dad, both children attended St. Ignatius School. Claire graduated from St. Francis High School, Todd graduated from Jesuit in 2019. Claire attended Gonzaga University and is now working in Boston. Todd is pursuing his master’s of engineering at Northeastern University.
