On December 5, the Jesuit Counseling Department is hosting a school-wide assembly focusing on Behavioral Health. The focus will be defining mental health vs mental illness. The message will also include ways teens deplete neurotransmitter activity in the brain, as well as highlighting ways to improve helpful neurotransmitter activity to increase mood stability. Kasey Cardinale will be identifying the HALT (Hungry? Angry? Lonely? Tired?) acronym highlighted in the October newsletter.

Students are invited to think about the stigma that continues to surround seeking help for mental health resources. In effort to break through this stigma, Mrs. Cardinale will be defining her role on campus for the first time to the entire student body. This includes explaining the referral process for a Wellness appointment.

Please ask your sons to tell you about a take-away message from this assembly next week. Our hope is that this time dedicated to behavioral health will create dialogue for you to talk about as a family.
