A Message from the Principal Regarding CyberBullying

Post

Parents and Friends,

Jesuit High School Administration would like to inform you about a developing situation with a newly created social media app that is causing considerable harm in our local community. The app, aimed at teens, allows users to post anonymously with little to no safeguards to monitor or regulate content. Given the anonymous nature of the platform, we are unable to determine who is posting this content, but we are aware that Jesuit students are involved to some degree, both as users and as recipients of harm.

This app was created by a non-Jesuit student. San Juan Unified School District has confirmed the creator is a student in their district. Jesuit school leadership has been in dialogue with our San Juan Unified School District counterparts as we consider steps we can take to respond prudently.

We are grateful for our students who have been in dialogue with us and are taking steps to support their peers. As partners in mission, we are asking for your support in speaking with your sons about the dangers of cyberbullying and the steps they can take to care for themselves and their classmates and friends who they feel may be victims of the abuse created by this app and other online platforms.

Jesuit is eager to support our students and families who may need care because of this situation. Please reach out to your son’s counselor or any member of the school administration with your concerns or needs.

Thank you,

Dr. Michael Wood
Principal
