Freshman Day of Service
Fr. Petrich's Theology 1, P. 2

The Freshman service requirement is minimal, but focused. It is coordinated with the student’s Theology 1 class, and involves a day of in-class preparation, a Day of Service in the Sacramento community, and a day of follow-up reflection and planning of next steps. In the past, freshmen have struggled with knowing where and how to set up service, feeling anxious about showing up at a service site, and managing the general overwhelm of the freshman year. The Day of Service mitigates some of these obstacles by offering the freshmen a structured experience of service in community with their classmates and teachers at respected service agencies in the community. After completing the day of service with his class, each student is responsible for completing an additional three hours of approved Service and Justice programming.

The day begins with reflection and direction in the Phelan Chapel at 8:20 am.
