Jesuit High School Sacramento is honored to announce a landmark $2 million gift from Joseph ’89 and Abigail Baratta, marking the largest single unrestricted donation the school has ever received. This extraordinary contribution serves as a powerful catalyst for Jesuit Sacramento’s bold transition to a Co-Divisional model, expanding future opportunities for all students while strengthening the school’s 63-year legacy of excellence, faith, and service.

The Barattas’ remarkable generosity comes at a pivotal time for Jesuit Sacramento as the school embarks on its transition to a Co-Divisional model for the 2027-2028 school year. This strategic evolution expands access to a premier Jesuit education while remaining rooted in its Ignatian mission to form students as men and women for others.

“As the school takes this bold and forward-looking step, I want to help ensure that future generations experience the same transformative education that I did,” Baratta said. “This gift will hopefully help Jesuit grow and thrive.”

This unrestricted gift provides Jesuit with the flexibility to allocate funds where they are needed most as it moves forward, whether to support innovative academic programs, expand opportunities for students, or enhance campus facilities.

Mr. Baratta, who currently serves as the Global Head of Private Equity Strategies at Blackstone, is widely recognized as one of the most influential figures in finance, and his strength of character and strategic insight are matched by his deep understanding of the challenges and opportunities facing private education today. A proud graduate of Jesuit institutions—both Jesuit Sacramento and Georgetown University —he credits his high school for instilling the foundational values that have guided both professional and personal successes.

“His active involvement on boards and committees of esteemed institutions—including the Board of Directors at Georgetown University—gives him a rare, informed perspective on the shifting educational landscape. That breadth of experience makes his support not only generous but profoundly meaningful,” said Chris Alling, president of Jesuit Sacramento.

In 2020, the Barattas also graciously made a $1 million gift to Jesuit Sacramento’s Scholarship Endowment to support tuition assistance for students. This new 2025 gift builds on their legacy and stands as a defining moment in Jesuit Sacramento’s history, both as a celebration of its past and a resounding vote of confidence in its bright future.

“Joe and Abigail’s generosity reflects the heart of Jesuit’s Ignatian mission grounded in service, leadership, and a deep trust in our shared purpose,” shared Alling. “A gift of this magnitude emboldens us to move forward with vision and agility, and we are forever grateful.”

“As the school takes this bold and forward-looking step, I want to help ensure that future generations experience the same transformative education that I did. This gift will hopefully help Jesuit grow and thrive.”
