The 2016 Jesuit Harriers opened their competitive season impressively with team victories in the Freshman, Sophomore, and Varsity races.

In a race field of 15 teams the Freshman team posted the fastest team time of the day 60:39.  The team was led by individual winner Matt Strangio whose time of 11:12 was the fastest time of the day on the 2 mile course.  In a close team race Jesuit’s 1-3-8-11-13 place finishers for 36 points  proved to be too much depth for Whitney ‘s 2-5-6-14-17 place finishers for  44 (low score wins).  Third place Davis – 101 points, 4th place Rio Americano – 117 points, and 5th place Bella Vista = 143 points rounded out the top 5 teams.  Nicholas Salonites, Caelin Sutch, Talon Krieger, Martin Smith, Eric Huitt, and Connor King rounded out the top 7.

The Sophomore race featured a field of 32 teams with 319 finishers.   One again, Jesuit’s depth proved to be too much for the other teams with the Marauders placing  6 runners in the top 30.  The team’s 6-8-11-13-25 place finishes for a team total of 63 points distanced itself from 2nd Place Davis’s 101 points, Oakmont’s 108 points, Bella Vista’s 185 points, and Whitney’s 229 points.  The team was led by Seamus Caslin and Todd Russell with Robert Canalas, Colin Brannan, Vicente Lamera, Russell, Kustic, and Steven Noll rounding out the top 7.

The Large School Varsity Boys race featured most of the top teams and individuals from the Sac Joaquin Section.  In a quality field of 27 teams, Jesuit, led by seniors Brendan Jones and Ben Holland, juniors Jordan Rahe and David Vincent, and senior Robert Bell placed 3-5-7-19-21 for a team total of 55 points to beat out 2nd place Bella Vista – 73 points, 3rd place McClatchy – 110 points, 4th place Armijo – 124 points, 5th place Davis – 148 points, and 6th place Sheldon – 207 points.  Colin Ryan and Patrick Caslin rounded out the top 7 for the Marauders.

Jesuit will compete next week at Granite Regional Park as meet host for the Jesuit/Davis Cross Country Jamboree.  The meet will feature app. 25 teams as the teams looks to build upon its opening season wins.
