Frosh/Soph and Varsity Teams Win.

Article

After a bye week, Jesuit got back to racing this week, competing in its first Delta League Meet at Granite Regional Park.  This was the first time a League Meet was held in the morning on a school day to avoid having to race in hot, unhealthy conditions.

The Jesuit Frosh/Soph team started out the day for the Marauders with a team victory, scoring 31 points to best Franklin of Elk Grove (47), Davis (67), Sheldon (94), Monterey Trail (158), and Pleasant Grove (168).  The Marauders were led by freshmen Talon Krieger (3rd place), Caelin Sutch (4th), sophomores Colin Brannan (6th), Todd Russell (7th), Robert Canalas (11th), freshman Martin Smith (12th), and sophomore Steven Noll (17th).  Fifteen Jesuit Frosh/Soph runners recorded best times on the course, improving on the times they recently ran at the Jesuit-Davis Jamboree with the greatest improvement made by Freshman Enrique Pasos who dropped his time by 1 minute and 5 seconds!

With the Varsity team preparing to race Saturday at Stanford, the Marauders ran a measured effort to secure the win without expending any more effort than necessary.  Jesuit’s top 5 runners consisting of Ben Holland, Jordan Rahe, Matt Strangio, Colin Ryan, and Brendan Jones crossed the line together in 17:01 placing 5-6-7-8-9 for a team score of 35 points, well ahead of Sheldon (58), Davis (101), Pleasant Grove (103), Franklin (116), Elk Grove (140), and Monterey Trail (180).  Individually, senior Ed Perez lowered his best time on this course by 2 minutes and 34 seconds!

This Saturday, Jesuit will take the top 14 runners down to Stanford to compete in the Championship Varsity Race as well as the Large School Varsity race while the rest of the team competes locally at the Capital Cross Challenge held at Haggin Oaks Golf Course.
