The JV Marauder’s Faced the Christian Brothers Falcons at Jesuit’s home field in a game called the Holy Mud Bowl. The match was a physical affair with the many gum shield rattling tackles, but with good team defense the Marauders were able to prevail. The scoring got under way when Liam McLoughlin scored a try running through The Falcons forward pack. Soren Peterson’s conversion was good. Score 7-0 the good guys

The second try came off some sloppy Christian Brothers play when the rugby ball got kicked out of the breakdown towards the try zone. Fortunately the fleet footed Hunter Donaldson out paced the rest of the field to touch it down for another 5 points to extend the Marauders lead. Score was 12-0 Marauders.

Christian Brothers who brought some very large forwards to today’s contest countered the last score with a try of their own. The Falcon’s out-weighed the lads by over 100 stone so the motto of the day was to, “TACKLE THEM LOW BOYS”. Even though the Marauders gave it their best effort the Falcons were able to push the pill over the line for a converted try. Score 12-7 Marauders.

After the restart Jesuit was able to retake possession off a breakdown and Noah Clay raced 50 meters down the line to get an unconverted try of his own. Score 17-7 Marauders Halftime.  Scoring in the second period started when Hunter Donaldson stole the ball right out the hands of a Falcon player and put it down in the try zone. The conversion by lock Zack Nkadi sailed right through the uprights. Score 24-7 Marauders.

Then Christian Brothers countered with a converted try of their own when they took advantage of a botched Jesuit kick. Score 24-14 Marauders

After the restart Christian Brothers was trying to clear the ball because they were behind their 22 meter. The sloppy conditions made the ball handling very hard. Not for Perry Jackson though, he stole the ball off a Falcon player and dished it off to Logan Carter for an unconverted try. Score 29-14 Marauders

Christian Brothers did not give up and they scored an unconverted try off a botched Jesuit counter attack. Score 29-19 Marauders

Christian Brothers clearly had the momentum going into the final minutes of the game. The big players from Christian Brothers kept pounding the middle of the field. Our boys kept tackling and tackling perfecting the concept of being a speed bump. Then Christian Brothers got away from their only successful concept and decided to kick the ball. Little did they realize that Kyle Cazeaux was in the area and when the ball failed to find touch, Kyle with some fancy footwork made four defenders miss and scored the death blow to the Falcons. The conversion sailed right. Final score 34-19

Marauders Coaches note: Very happy, the boys applied the concept of team defense, staying connected, and playing the game on the opponents side of the gain line. Special shout out to Soren Peterson, Liam McLoughlin, and Maddox Martinez. Their Work rate, and physicality helped set an attacking platform.
