Marauder Varsity Soccer Beats Rocklin 3-1
Wednesday, December 12, 2018
On a freezing Wednesday night, Jesuit traveled to Rocklin High School to take on the Thunder. In the 11th minute, the ball was moved into the Rocklin side of the field and a Jesuit attack was started. Chris Meyers got the ball in the left side of the field around the edge of the penalty box and casually cut it back to Luke Bone who finished it clinically. The rest of the first half was a solid showing from Jesuit, with plenty of good defensive stops and a good amount of chances on offense. There was one very worrisome moment, though, in the 22nd minute, when a Rocklin midfielder lobbed a beautiful shot that took a high bounce into the reaching arms of Matthias Milton right before it could pass the goal line. There were also strong claims for a Jesuit hand ball in this play.
Half Jesuit 1-0 Rocklin
The game so far was solid and very good statistically from both sides, but it lacked the right excitement. However it all came at once in a matter of a few minutes. In the 63rd minute, a triangle play by Jesuit was completed successfully, where somebody towards the right of the penalty box cut it back to Chris Meyers at the top of the box who slid it back up to Matthew Kahn on the left side. Kahn hit a nice shot into the left slice of the goal. Only a minute later, on a Rocklin transition into the Jesuit side of the field, Jesuit’s defensive guard was down and it took one pass to a Rocklin attacker to put it past the keeper. 2-1 Jesuit. In the same gap of three minutes, in the 65th minute, Meyers sprinted down the middle of the pitch and once a blob of defenders started to form around him he passed it off to Jake L’Ecuyer who deposited one high corner, giving the keeper no chance. Jesuit regained their two-goal lead, and kept a lot of possession and used the clock well to end the game with that score. Final score: Jesuit 3-1 Rocklin
