Junior Matt Strangio finished 8th at Nike Cross Nationals in Portland, Oregon on Saturday earning 2nd-team All-American status. After completing the high school season with his win at the California State meet last weekend, Strangio was invited to compete unattached at the National Championship meet. After an aggressive start, Strangio stuck in the lead pack for the first mile that at times was 8 runners across. Strangio came across the mile at 4:43 with 20 other runners credited with the same time and 68 come through under 4:50. The lead changed several times with no runners making bold moves before the two mile mark where 12 runners, including Strangio came through at 9:44. The race was broken open by fellow Californian Liam Anderson of Redwood High School who went on to win in 14:57.6. Strangio finished in 15:10.7 to close out the 2018 cross country season as an All-American.
