We invite you to join us to listen and learn, Why we are talking about racism and racial equity featuring Fr. Mike Moynahan and Fr. John McGarry.

In this first session of the series, Fr. Mike and Fr. John will be sharing their experiences and understanding of social justice, white privilege and racism; and how they have evolved in their thinking on these topics. The session will be a moderated conversation followed by participant questions.

Our Speakers

Fr. Michael E. Moynahan is an ordained Roman Catholic priest of the Society of Jesus.  On January 10, 2009, he was installed as Pastor of St. Ignatius of Loyola Parish in Sacramento and is currently a Senior Priest in residence.  Fr Mike was born and raised in the deserts of Arizona and has loved being near water ever since. He is a poet who, as a result of leading pilgrimages to Italy, Ireland, Turkey and Greece, believes the world is his classroom.

Fr. John McGarry is a native of Los Angeles, California, and entered the Society of Jesus in 1981. He was named Provincial of the California Province of the Society of Jesus in 2005, supervising approximately three-hundred seventy-five Jesuits involved in three universities, eight high schools, one Nativity School, ten parishes, six social ministries, three retreat/ spirituality centers, and other educational, pastoral and social ministries. Fr. McGarry has been the President of Jesuit High School Sacramento since 2018.
