Cardinal Robert Prevost of the United States named Pope Leo XIV

News

With joy and reverence, Jesuit High School Sacramento celebrates the election of our new Holy Father, Pope Leo XIV. As a Jesuit, Catholic institution, we join the global Church in prayer for the Holy Spirit to guide our new Pope in wisdom, humility, and courage as he leads us in faith, justice, and love.

The Jesuit High School community offers its prayers for His Holiness, Pope Leo XIV, as he begins his papal ministry, trusting in the guidance of the Holy Spirit and the support of faithful communities worldwide. I am especially moved by the way he addressed the crowd gathered in St. Peter’s Square, quoting the greeting of the resurrected Jesus to his disciples:  “Peace be with you all.”  May we find comfort in this peace that surpasses all understanding. May we rejoice as the newly elected Holy Father reminds us that “God loves us. God loves everyone.”

In the spirit and tradition of St. Ignatius of Loyola, all of us at Jesuit Sacramento recommit ourselves to forming young people who will serve others with compassion, integrity, and faith, guided always by the Church and inspired by the example of our Holy Father.

Ad Majorem Dei Gloriam.

President, Jesuit High School of Sacramento

As a Jesuit High School alumnus who was challenged during my four years to go out into the world and set it on fire with the love of God, I am looking forward to watching and learning from a Pope who has spent decades responding to this same challenge.

I invite you to join me in praying that God may bless our first American and Peruvian Pope with the courage and wisdom needed to shepherd the world’s Catholics and lead the Church in sharing the unconditional love of Christ with all people.
