Meet the Coaches Who Will Launch Girls Athletics at Jesuit
For generations, Jesuit schools across the globe have recognized the important role that athletics play in forming the whole person. Across that tradition, teachers, coaches, and alumni have helped shape student-athletes through lessons in leadership, discipline, teamwork, resilience, and sportsmanship that extend far beyond competition. As Jesuit High School Sacramento prepares to welcome young women and launch the Girls Division in Fall 2027, we are excited to announce the first head coaches who will help establish the foundation of our own girls’ athletics program.
These leaders bring a wealth of coaching experience, a deep commitment to student-athlete development, and strong connections to the Jesuit community. Collectively, they also bring years of experience within Ignatian education as teachers, coaches, mentors, and, in some cases, former students themselves. Their understanding of Jesuit values and the transformative power of athletics will play an important role in shaping the culture, competitiveness, and spirit of our inaugural teams.
These appointments mark another exciting milestone as we build a comprehensive athletics program rooted in the same tradition of excellence, sportsmanship, and student formation that has long defined Marauder Athletics. Additional coaching announcements will be shared in early fall.
We are proud to introduce the first members of our Girls Athletics coaching staff:
Cross Country — Sarah Kelso, current Jesuit faculty member
Jesuit High School Sacramento is proud to announce Sarah Kelso as the new Head Coach of the Girls Cross Country program.
A passionate distance runner and accomplished endurance athlete, Kelso recently completed the 2026 Boston Marathon and brings firsthand experience in competitive running, goal setting, and athletic development to the program. Her commitment to excellence, perseverance, and lifelong fitness reflects the values she hopes to instill in every student-athlete.
Kelso also brings more than 15 years of experience as an educator at Jesuit Sacramento, where she has served as a Spanish teacher and yoga instructor since 2009. She holds bachelor’s degrees in English and Spanish from UC Berkeley and a master’s degree in International Affairs from Columbia University.
Her connection to Jesuit education extends beyond her professional career. Kelso is a graduate of St. Ignatius College Preparatory, a fellow Jesuit network school, and understands the transformative impact of a Jesuit Catholic education on the development of the whole person.
As head coach, Kelso looks forward to building a program that emphasizes competitive excellence, team culture, personal growth, and a love of running. Her unique combination of athletic achievement, educational experience, and Jesuit values makes her an outstanding leader for the next chapter of Jesuit Girls Cross Country.
Flag Football — Mike Rosales, current Jesuit Boys Track & Field coach
As Jesuit High School Sacramento prepares for the inaugural season of Marauder Flag Football, Mike Rosales will lead the program as its first head coach. Known for his energy, leadership, and commitment to student-athlete development, Rosales is uniquely positioned to build the program from the ground up.
Rosales currently serves as Jesuit’s Head Track & Field Coach, where he has established a reputation for fostering a culture of accountability, teamwork, and competitive excellence. His experience leading student-athletes and building successful programs will provide a strong foundation as flag football begins its first chapter at Jesuit Sacramento.
In addition to his coaching responsibilities, Rosales is an educator in the Engineering Pathway Program at Florin High School. He holds a bachelor’s degree in exercise science from UC Davis and a master’s degree in organizational leadership and multicultural education from National University.
As the founding head coach, Rosales is excited to create a program rooted in character, discipline, sportsmanship, and school pride while providing student-athletes with new opportunities to compete, grow, and represent Jesuit Sacramento with distinction. His passion for education and athletics makes him an outstanding leader for the future of Marauders Flag Football.
Swim & Dive — Kai Nabeta-Cacal, current Jesuit Boys Swim assistant coach
Jesuit High School’s Girls Swimming program will be led by a familiar face on the pool deck as Kai Nabeta-Cacal steps into the role of head coach after serving as an assistant coach with the Marauders boys program during the 2025-26 season.
Nabeta-Cacal brings a strong background as both a competitive swimmer and a coach. She currently serves as a lead competitive coach with DART Swimming, where she helps develop national and senior-level swimmers while emphasizing character, accountability, teamwork, and athletic excellence.
A former collegiate swimmer at the University of Hawai’i, Nabeta-Cacal studied Kinesiology and Exercise Science and later earned a master’s degree in Coaching and Athletic Administration from Concordia University Irvine. As a student-athlete, she was a multi-event All-American, league MVP, and high school record holder at Rio American High School.
As she takes the helm of the Girls Swimming program, Nabeta-Cacal brings energy, technical expertise, and a passion for developing young athletes. Her background as a high-level swimmer, educator, and mentor will help create an environment where athletes are challenged to reach their potential, support one another, and find lasting success in and out of the pool.
Volleyball — Sara Marks, returning Jesuit volleyball coach
Jesuit High School Sacramento Girls Volleyball program will be guided by a familiar and accomplished leader, as Sara Marks returns to the Marauder community as head coach.
Marks brings an extraordinary record of success and a familiar presence to Marauder Athletics.
