The 2025 Jesuit High School Sacramento varsity football season has wrapped up. The Marauders finished with a winning record – 6-5 in the season – but a .500 record in league play, finishing 3-3.

Jesuit had a difficult opening to the season, with a 38-13 loss to the Woodcreek Timberwolves football team that went on to win their section. Despite the early bump in the road, the team bounced back, winning three straight games, including statement wins against rivals Rio Americano (35-0) and Christian Brothers (28-7).

After a confident 3-1 start, the Marauders’ remaining six games were against league rivals, five of which were ranked in the top 50 teams in the state. The first league fixture matched the Marauders up against the Granite Bay Grizzlies. Although the Marauders did not come out on top, losing 31-20, the team found its feet in the second half, outscoring the Grizzlies 20-14.

The Marauders were unshaken by the result, carrying the momentum forward to an upset victory over Rocklin after an outstanding performance from Jesuit’s run offense. Following the Marauders’ underdog win, the team looked toward the upcoming game against Oak Ridge. This match presented an opportunity for the team to prove whether the Rocklin game was a fluke. The Marauder defense took this as a challenge, tallying four sacks and recovering three fumbles, including a game-sealing 81-yard fumble return touchdown from Linebacker Luke De Lyser ’26.

After a 5-2 start, Jesuit’s momentum was stalled by consecutive losses to two strong teams: Del Oro and Folsom. Despite the setback, Jesuit ended the regular season with an emphatic 38-17 victory over Whitney after standout performances from Marauder Quarterback Teddy Rios ’26 and Running Back Steven Greene Jr. ’26.

Jesuit concluded the regular season with a 6-5 record and went into the section playoffs as the fifth seed, earning the Marauders a spot against fourth seed St. Mary’s of Stockton. The Marauder offense was unstoppable in the first half, creating a 20-point lead midway through the second quarter. Going into halftime, Jesuit led 31-15. The second half had an explosive start after three consecutive kick-return touchdowns from both teams, two of which were from Marauders Stevie Hughes ’26 and Larry Dorton ’28. After the astounding special teams’ plays, the scoreboard showed Jesuit leading 45-29 with 10 minutes of the third quarter remaining.

With the final quarter of the win-or-go-home matchup reaching its end, neither team could keep control of the lead. Both offenses seemed unrelenting as Running Back Miles Hubbard ‘26 put Jesuit up 55-51 with less than five minutes remaining. However, the St. Mary’s offense eventually gained the upper hand over the Jesuit defense, scoring a 5-yard touchdown with less than 10 seconds left on the clock to give the Rams a 3-point lead as the clock ran out.

Despite the unfortunate ending to the season, the Marauders made their presence felt in their second year in the Sierra Foothill League. With upset wins against Rocklin and Oak Ridge and dominant performances over rivals Rio Americano and Christian Brothers, the team has proved itself to be a strong competitor in one of the most difficult leagues in Northern California.
