Jesuit volleyball goes head-to-head against the nation’s top players
Over spring break, Jesuit High School Sacramento’s varsity volleyball team traveled to Hawaii to compete in The Clash of the Titans tournament. The tournament hosted the top competition in the country, allowing the Marauders to showcase their talents and skills while representing the school.
Jesuit played three of the top 15 teams in the country, including No. 2 Mira Costa and No. 1 Huntington Beach. Although they came short of the tournament title, Jesuit showed up and competed against the best talent in the nation.
“We definitely worked through a lot of struggles in this tournament, and it was a really good learning moment as it was the most high level volleyball our team has seen,” Nicolas Hill-Gaston ’26 said.
Despite the tough competition, Jesuit proved they can compete at the highest level in the tournament, especially when they won a set against the No. 1 ranked team Huntington Beach.
“My favorite part was definitely playing that Huntington Beach game, because, they were going in as number one in the country, and we played really well in just high level volleyball and showed that we can compete with even number one in the country,” Nico said.
The Marauders strength came through the mental toughness they maintained against such fierce competition.
“We had a lot of mindset training just staying composed under pressure,” Roman Schwarzinger ’28 said.
After finishing an undefeated 14-0 in the Sierra Foothill League (28-5 overall), Jesuit has now clinched the first seed in the San-Joaquin Section playoffs, and will play Turlock at home on Wednesday, April 29th to start round one of the playoffs.
