On Friday Sept. 19, Jesuit High School Sacramento’s varsity football team lost to Granite Bay High School Grizzlies 31-20 in their first Sierra Foothill League game.

Granite Bay started by receiving the kickoff and swiftly went down the field to score a touchdown on an 18-yard run by wide receiver Darnell Turner ‘26, putting the score at 7-0 Granite Bay.

On the ensuing kickoff wide receiver Stevie Hughes ’26 took the ball down to the 5-yard line. Then, on the very next play, Jesuit fumbled the ball back to Granite Bay at the 1 yard line.

After a couple Granite Bay punts and a Jesuit turnover on down and punt, Granite Bay was able to extend their lead by hitting a 37-yard field goal to put them up 10-0 in the second quarter.

After a Granite Bay punt, Jesuit threw a pick to give great field position to the Grizzlies. Granite Bay was able to capitalize on Jesuit’s miscues and punched in a touchdown on a 1-yard run from Isaiah Ene ’26. That led to the end of the half with Granite Bay up 17-0 at the break.

Coming out of half the Marauders put together their best drive of the game up to that point with a long drive capped off by a 3-yard touchdown run by running back Brody Quinn ’27 putting the score at 17-7.

Granite Bay was able to respond to this touchdown with a 19 yard touchdown run from Isaiah Ene with his second touchdown run of the day.

Coming off that touchdown, Jesuit connected for their first passing touchdown of the day when quarterback Theodore “Teddy” Rios ’26 hit Stevie on a 28 yard touchdown pass putting Jesuit back in the game.

With the game back down to ten points, the Grizzlies were able to push their lead back up to 17 with another touchdown run from Isaiah Ene.

As the game was wrapping up, Jesuit was able to connect on a long 40 yard touchdown pass from quarterback Jeremiah Brannon to wide receiver Noah Briceno ’26 to put the score at 31-20 after a missed Point After Touchdown.

Granite Bay was then able to run out the clock, and Jesuit fell short of the win with a final score of 31-20. Jesuit is now 3-2 on the year and falls to 0-1 in the Sierra Foothill League. Jesuit’s next game is Friday, Sept. 26 against Rocklin at home, for our Homecoming game. Game tickets are available now, and are free for Jesuit students.
