With the new season on the horizon, Jesuit High School Sacramento’s varsity volleyball team is looking to build on last year’s 23-13 regular season record and second round loss in the Division 1 Section playoffs.

“There’s been a lot of buzz and a lot of excitement around this team in particular because the varsity team has a lot of young players,” said Head Coach Joey Elftmann ’00. “Those players have now become upperclassmen, so I think this team in particular is special because we have much more experience [compared to previous years].”

With the majority of last year’s starters returning and with underclassmen gaining another year of experience, the team believes that this year could be their best opportunity to demonstrate the strength of the Jesuit volleyball program.

“If everyone plays for each other and plays for the team, we will win,” Coach Elftmann said. “If players cheer for each other, root for each other, encourage each other, and really share in each other’s success, the sky’s the limit.”

The Marauders’ home opener is on Wednesday, Feb. 25, and all are welcome to witness the beginning of a season full of potential.

“They’re really fun to watch, and they are really nice guys and funny guys,” Coach Elftmann said. “From a pure joy standpoint, it will be a lot of fun to watch the team.”
