Opinion: Ghost of Yotei: a worthy successor
Developed by Sucker Punch Productions, “Ghost of Yotei” is a sequel to the critically-acclaimed Playstation game “Ghost of Tsushima.”
“Ghost of Yotei” is an extremely fun game. I initially had my doubts, thinking it wouldn’t live up to its predecessor, but it blew my expectations out of the water. With its fluid character design and movement, the visuals are cinematic and surely one of Sucker Punch’s best projects.
Its graphics are an incredible improvement compared with the previous game, the voice acting is still top-notch, the music is calming, and the combat has greatly improved.
For me, the music is where I was the most surprised. The wonderful composer Wataru Hokoyama truly brought the game to life through the cinematic music. His music has a sense of fluidity, and it makes the player feel calm whilst playing.
The story, although not as good as the previous installment, is a basic concept that is executed remarkably well.
The protagonist, Atsu, who you play as, has to avenge her family when they are murdered by the main antagonists, the Yotei Six. The plot is a classic revenge mission where she eliminates them all one by one in different fashions, eventually leading to the liberation of her native island Ezo. The story is presented wonderfully well, and I enjoyed playing Atsu, voiced by Erika Ishii.
I would personally recommend playing this game whenever you get the chance. The story is great as you play through Atsu’s personal reflection, tragedy, and eventual redemption.
On top of all this, it is a beautiful game, with graphics that would impress anyone and music that makes the player feel like they’re floating. Unfortunately, it is only available on PlayStation right now but there is hope of a PC release soon.
