Opinion: University of Utah is a must-see college

The University of Utah is a public college located in Salt Lake City, Utah. In the past year or so, I’ve been fortunate enough to tour many campuses on the West Coast, and this was one of my favorites. With its beautiful campus, great city environment, and great academics, the university is a great choice for Jesuit students applying.

The University of Utah has 38,261 students, split into 29,335 undergraduate students and 8,926 graduate students on its 1,534 acre campus. It offers 109 majors and 159 minors, and has an 18-1 student-to-teacher ratio.

The school is situated in a great location. It’s located in Salt Lake City, so if you want to experience a little bit of city life, then the campus is perfect for you. Salt Lake City was easily walkable. The city was also very clean and upkept, I was able to go out and eat at many different places, and overall, the food was very good. If you like a nice city that isn’t too big, Salt Lake City is a must-see.

If you prefer spending time in nature, there are also plenty of opportunities. The area has an abundance of hiking trails, as well as snow sports in the winter.

The campus is stunning. While I was on my tour, I was able to enter some of the student dorms. They were all very modern and each one had a distinct theme. For example, one of them had a nature theme that reflected the various outdoor opportunities around the university campus.

The highlight of the experience was the football game I attended on Saturday night. Travel to the game was easy  thanks to Salt Lake City’s light-rail, and even though it was cold, the atmosphere at the game was still electric. If any Jesuit students are looking for a great sporting atmosphere, the University of Utah is the perfect place.

Overall, I really enjoyed my tour and the school itself. I would say if you’re looking for a city lifestyle with some great sports, I would fully recommend the University of Utah. While the early action deadline passed on Dec. 1, students can still apply for rolling admission until April 1.
