Warming up for the next track and field season
The Jesuit High School Sacramento varsity track team is hoping to continue its success in the upcoming season after winning the SFL and a Division 1 Section Championships last year. As they push for a third consecutive section title and beyond, the Marauders aim to continue their dominance through excellence across the board and the experience of their leaders.
“Jesuit’s primary strength this season lies in the experience of our elite [returners],” said Head Track Coach Mike Rosales. “Having a core group of athletes who have already stood on the biggest stages provides a level of composure and leadership that is impossible to replicate.”
Despite the evident exceptional performances from the team’s leaders, the team wants to emphasize the importance of working with a state champion mentality from day one.
“The strength of a championship team isn’t just in its stars, but in its ability to improve where it was once vulnerable,” Coach Rosales said. “By attacking the hurdles and jumps with a ‘state-bound’ mindset and demanding more from our sprint core, we aren’t just filling out a roster—we are building a legacy.”
However, the team recognises that they cannot let complacency get to them, as they know their goals are only attainable if they are focused on growing as individual competitors as well.
“This standard of excellence is built on the foundation of individual growth,” Rosales said. “Every athlete on this team is committed to the personal goal of getting better each week.”
Every training that the team partakes in, whether it be physical or mental, is focused on fulfilling the goal of being champions.
“We are training with a specific purpose: to ensure that when the month of May arrives, we are physically and mentally prepared to deliver at our highest possible level,” Rosales said. “Each personal breakthrough brings us one step closer to our shared destiny as champions.”
