Opportunities

Gifts from your Will

Planning for the future and creating the legacy you wish to leave is one of the most effective ways to ensure a lasting impact. Making a gift in your will or living trust, known as a bequest, can guarantee that your legacy endures. Your gift may be a specific dollar amount, a percentage of your estate, or the remainder after all other provisions are specified. There are a number of ways to include Jesuit in your estate plan and qualify your estate for tax deductions.

Below is suggested basic bequest legal language to share with your attorney to make a gift in your will or living trust.

For an unrestricted gift that allows Jesuit High School of Sacramento to determine how to use the funds based on the most pressing needs, use the following language for your will and/or trust:

“I give to Jesuit High School of Sacramento, a nonprofit corporation currently located at 1200 Jacob Lane, Carmichael, CA 95608, or its successor thereto, _________ [written amount or percentage of the estate or description of property] for its unrestricted charitable use and purpose.”

To designate your provision for a particular purpose of your choosing:

“I give to Jesuit High School of Sacramento, a nonprofit corporation currently located at 1200 Jacob Lane, Carmichael, CA 95608, or its successor thereto, _________ [written amount or percentage of the estate or description of property]. This gift should be used for (state purpose) if and so long as Jesuit High School of Sacramento determines the need exists. If Jesuit High School of Sacramento shall determine at the outset or at a later time that the need does not exist, or no longer exists or for some reason it is not possible (or prudent) to administer my gift as originally intended – Jesuit High School of Sacramento may, in its sole and uncontrolled discretion, direct the use of my bequest for a purpose related as closely as possible to that stated above.”

Beneficiary Gifts Through Your Retirement Account

Naming Jesuit High School or Sacramento as the beneficiary of your retirement assets, such as a 401(k), 403(b), IRA, pension, or other tax-deferred plan is an excellent way to give to Jesuit, while providing important tax benefits.

Donor Advised Fund

Optimize your giving by designating Jesuit as a beneficiary for all or a portion of the balance on your Donor Advised Fund (DAF).

IRA Charitable Rollover

If you’re 70 1/2 or older, you can make a gift directly from your IRA to Jesuit, fulfill your Required Minimum Distribution, and realize significant tax savings.

Gifts of Stock and Securities

By donating appreciated stocks, bonds, or other securities, you’ll receive charitable deductions while reducing capital gains impact.

Gifts of Real Estate and Other Property

Like stock, making gifts of appreciated assets such as real estate or other property is a strategic way to support Jesuit, with savings on your income and estate taxes.
