A New Chapter in a Shared Story
The Jesuit priests embrace a renewed model of life in shared homes

President's Letter Chris Alling

Dear Jesuit High School Community,

The Society of Jesus (The Jesuits) has been a vital part of Sacramento for more than 70 years, shaping faith, learning, and service across our community. Today, we are excited to forward you news of a joyful next chapter in that story.

As shared in the message from Jesuits West Provincial Sean Carroll, SJ, the Jesuit priests will soon be moving into two shared homes directly across the street from the Jesuit High School Sacramento campus. While their residence is changing, their presence and commitment to our school, our students, and the Sacramento community remain strong.

This moment reflects the Jesuits’ long tradition of adapting how they live and serve, from the founding of Saint Ignatius Parish in 1954 to Jesuit High School in 1963 and Cristo Rey High School in 2006. Remaining rooted in Sacramento while adapting how they live together represents a renewed commitment to the city and to these three important works that animate the mission of the Society of Jesus. It also opens exciting possibilities for Jesuit High School as we expand and grow in new ways to support our shared mission.

It is that growth we are preparing for as we welcome young women and young men to our co‑divisional educational model in Fall 2027. Brebeuf Hall, where the priests’ dormitory-style residence is currently located, will soon become a blank canvas with exciting possibilities for our campus. One of the earliest buildings on campus and currently home to key school services, including the Business, Admissions, Communications, Advancement, and President’s office, as well as our award‑winning choral program, this historic space holds great promise for supporting the next chapter of our school’s mission.

We are profoundly grateful for the continued generosity of service the Jesuits provide all in our region, and particularly to the students and families of Jesuit High School. Their example of openness to growth continues to inspire and support our school.

Rooted in the Jesuits mission and animated by excellence and innovation, we look forward to dreaming boldly about what lies ahead on our campus. Our momentum is real, and we are just getting started.

Peace,

Chris Alling

President

“…this transition Is an opportunity for a more sustainable and intentional community for our Jesuits while preserving a close, visible and engaged presence at Jesuit High and continued ministry at Cristo Rey and St. Ignatius.

In addition, the community’s relocation creates new opportunities for both the Jesuit community and the school to respond to present needs and future possibilities, including the school’s transition toward a co-divisional model, a mission-driven expansion supported by both the province and the Jesuits in Sacramento.”
