English 3

All junior students at Jesuit will select a summer reading book from THIS list. We will use this text for various discussions and writing assignments in class this year, so please be sure that you read your chosen book carefully. 

Double-check the ISBN to ensure that you have purchased the correct paperback version of the text (no eBooks or PDFs allowed). You may opt to buy a used book if the ISBN is correct and the book has not already been annotated (since you will be annotating your text).

As you read your chosen book,  please be sure to annotate. Some suggestions for annotation: circle unfamiliar words, summarize plot development and character descriptions in the margins, take note of any quotations that reveal new meanings or character insight, trace themes and recurring ideas, mark any passages that confuse or interest you.

Assessment

In the first few days of school, you will be asked to write about the text you’ve chosen.  You must bring your text to class so digital, audio, or .pdf versions are not allowed.  Further details will be given once school begins in the fall.
