Staying Connected – Mar 12
One year later

Update

Dear Parents, Students, Faculty, Staff, and Friends:

As we post this, our nation has been in the grip of the COVID-19 pandemic for more than a year. Today marks the day in 2020 on which we informed you that our school campus would close and we would shift to digital learning.

Throughout this past year, our country has experienced fear, anxiety, isolation, confusion, heartbreak and loss due to this devastating virus. We pray for those who have died because of COVID-19 and for their loved ones who mourn and grieve.

We have seen heroism in our healthcare workers and first responders, and we have witnessed generosity, flexibility and patience in our own community here at Jesuit High School. Our faculty, staff and students have come together in supportive ways, even though we have not been able to have the full campus life that we usually enjoy.

This has been quite a journey, and God has been with us every step of the way, most especially through our love, care, and prayers for each other.

We are hopeful that all of our community will remain safe and healthy as we look to better days ahead. Our safe return has been a blessing and it is so good to see the campus coming back to life through the community-building activities of our students in athletics, arts, Service, and Campus Ministry.

The mission of Jesuit High School Sacramento has remained strong and true during these troubled times. It is an enduring mission that places the education and formation of our beloved students at the center of all we do here at 1200 Jacob Lane.

In this second half of the Lenten season, let’s pray with Pope Francis, who spoke these words just a few days ago:

“At all times, let us offer thanks to God for his gracious gifts and ask him to grant his peace, forgiveness and fraternity to this land and its people. Let us pray tirelessly for the conversion of hearts and for the triumph of a culture of life, reconciliation and love between all men and women, with respect for differences and diverse religious traditions, in the effort to build a future of unity and cooperation between all people of good will.”

As we continue the journey toward Easter, let us look forward to the new life that is ours through the passion, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Gratefully,

Rev. John P. McGarry, S.J.
President
