Important Announcement Regarding Change to our Final Exam Procedures
This information was shared with your student via email today
Good afternoon,
The following message regarding final exams was sent to students, so we wanted to make sure that you were also aware. If you have any questions about this guidance for students, please contact the Dean’s Office.
JHS Students,
As we approach final exams, we want to make you aware of minor changes to our exam procedures to ensure all students enter next week fully prepared to meet expectations and follow guidelines.
Exam Schedule
The exam schedule remains the same:
First test each day begins at 8:30
Second exam begins at 11:15
One change is that students will be able to submit work and leave the exam rooms after 60 minutes. Standard time for exams will continue to be 90 minutes, and students who qualify for extended time will be able to use that accommodation as always. Students who complete work and leave before the end of the 90 minute standard time exam period must go to the Library, Harris Center, or leave campus.
Testing Uninterrupted
Additionally, we are setting a new expectation that students take exams uninterrupted. This means that once materials have been distributed and the exam has begun, students are not allowed to leave the exam room to use the restroom, get water, etc., until the first 60 minutes of the exam period is completed and all testing materials have been submitted to the proctor. Our hope is that the slightly later start compared to a typical school day (8:30 rather than 8:20) and the considerable break between exams will allow ample time for students to use the restroom, eat, etc. prior to starting any of their exams. Students with an accommodation for taking breaks as needed have been contacted regarding how they will access that accommodation. If there is an emergent need to leave the testing room for any reason before the completion of the exam (or before the 60 minute mark of the exam period), proctors will refer the student to the Dean’s Office for assistance. Students that leave the exam room after beginning the exam will not be allowed to return to the testing room.
Standard Expectations
We will continue to enforce standard expectations in place, such as storing all bags, phones, smart watches, and other electronic devices at the front of the testing rooms, and the attendance policies for final exams as outlined on page 38 of the Student-Parent Handbook. In addition to Mr. Zielke’s typical announcements over the PA, proctors will read common directions at the start of each exam period that reiterate expectations for testing room procedures. We encourage all students to be attentive to the directions as they are being read by the exam proctor.
Congratulations on a great year, and best of luck on final exams! Please stop by the Dean’s Office if you have any questions or concerns
