The Alumni Family Mass reunites past and present Jesuit families
On Saturday, Jan. 24, the Alumni Family Mass will take place in the Phelan Chapel of the North American Martyrs, welcoming Jesuit High School Sacramento alumni, current students, and families to campus.
The mass is held once a month and is open to anyone connected to Jesuit. It gives alumni a chance to return and worship alongside current families and students.
“It’s a place for alumni to come back to pray together and hang out together,” said Director of Alumni Ministry Mr. Paul LeBoeuf. “[It’s] also for current families and all Jesuit families to come and celebrate mass with us.”
The Alumni Family Mass is distinct because of the shared experience of those who attend and the common foundation they bring with them.
“When people come to the Jesuit mass, whether it be a current family, an alumni family, or alumni themselves, they all have the experience of Jesuit,” Mr. LeBoeuf said. “They all have the experience of being a part of a community of believers.”
An alumni choir also helps shape the experience and strengthens the connection between alumni and current students.
“We have four or five alumni that sing, and we have practice once the week before the Mass,” Mr LeBoeuf said. “Current students from Liturgy Workshop have joined and helped out [too].”
The sense of community continues beyond the liturgy through time spent together after mass.
“We do a social after,” Mr. LeBoeuf said. “We do some food after mass, just to get together and talk with each other. It’s great to see alumni come back that I haven’t seen for a long time.”
Mr. LeBoeuf encourages all families to attend on Saturday, Jan 24 at 5 p.m.
