Exploring exciting student art

On April 25, from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m., Jesuit High School Sacramento will host an art showcase known as The Exhibition: Cannonball Collection. This is the first Exhibition in our history, and it will consist of pieces from the students in Digital Media and Studio Art classes. To conclude the Exhibition, there will be an awards ceremony at 6:30 p.m.

This event was planned by Art Teacher Mr. Polo Lopez and Digital Photography Teacher Dr. Katherine Madden. Mr. Lopez, who put on multiple exhibitions at his previous school, is happy for this opportunity for his students to display their work to the public.

“This is the first time we are able to show off all of the really cool talent that our students have and have been working really hard on,” Mr. Lopez said. “It’s really nice, and it’s gonna be an opportunity for us to showcase the students and put the students first, which is what it should all be about.”

Art is a passion for many of the students in Studio Art and Digital Media. The Exhibition is a great chance for students to show off that passion to the rest of the Jesuit community. George Srabian ’25 is one of those students who jumped at the opportunity to submit something for the Exhibition.

“I was really inspired to do it because art is just something that I really like,” Geroge said. “It’s my outlet, it’s my fun, it’s what I do when I have free time, and it’s just something that I feel like I can really pour myself, my personality, and my emotions into.”

While George uses art as a personal outlet, he also loves to see how his peers express themselves through art.

“I love seeing how everyone else has special takes and special spins on things because, honestly, at this school, we have so many creative and artistic people around us, and it’s just amazing how everyone is different and everyone has their own skills and some are good at painting and some are good at drawing,” George said.

For Dr. Madden, the Exhibition is not only a chance to show off students’ work but also an opportunity to form a lifelong passion.

“The Exhibition provides students with a platform for them to be celebrated for their creative expression and for their labor to be recognized,” Dr. Madden said. “Hopefully, this event will allow students to see firsthand the impact their art has on their community and will inspire them to pursue future artistic endeavors.”

Not all of the pieces shown at the Exhibition are student creations. Dr. Madden is excited to see the faculty submissions as well

“I love that we are also featuring the art of faculty members!” Dr. Madden said. “We have so many creative people on this campus and it is great for students to see that creating art can and should be a lifelong endeavor.”

The Exhibition has the potential to become one of the most anticipated annual events at Jesuit. Make sure to come and support members from the Jesuit community and see their stories expressed through visual art.
