From Face off to Finish: Jesuit Wraps Up Great Season
The Jesuit High School Sacramento Varsity Lacrosse team finished their season with a record of 16-4 and a Sierra Foothill League record of 12-2, which put them second in the league. The team was able to put together a great season and went into the playoffs as the number two seed in the Division 1 bracket for the Sac-Joaquin Section Championships.
The Marauders began the year by winning their first five games. The team then hit a rough patch and lost to a couple of good teams, resulting in a 7-3 record at the halfway point of the year. The team turned it up in their last stretch of games, where they won their last seven games.
The team had some key wins during the regular season. They were able to beat Whitney High School, the number one team in the league, after losing to them in their first meeting. The Marauders were also able to avenge their early-season loss to Oak Ridge High School as well. Both of these wins came in their seven-game win streak towards the end of the year. The team’s only losses this year were to Whitney and Oakridge on the road, as well as a tough loss to Junipero Serra High School on the road.
As they headed into playoffs, Jesuit began their quest for a section title with a blowout win over Bella Vista High School in the first round with a score of 13-4. They then went up against the Vista Del Lago Eagles, where the Marauders came out on top 10-4, advancing to the Division I Section Championship game. The rematch against Whitney in the Section Finals was electric, with both teams looking to avenge their losses earlier in the season. After a hard-fought game, the Whitney Wildcats were ultimately victorious, winning 12-7 and taking home the Section title.
Even though Jesuit lost in the title game, the team still had a successful season overall, finishing just short of hoisting a banner.
