On Saturday, Aug. 23 and Sunday, Aug. 24, Jesuit High School Sacramento hosted its annual Freshman Overnight Retreat. This retreat allowed freshmen to connect on a deeper level with each other and their Big Brothers. Many activities and events were put in place to foster an exciting atmosphere for the freshman class.

Director of Campus Ministry Mr. Adam McGrew ’15, along with his team, oversaw much of the planning and behind-the-scenes work put into the retreat.

“It is not possible to have a freshman overnight without the team of adults that are involved in planning it,” Mr. McGrew said. “A lot of people spend a lot of time in energy being able to produce that event.”

Not only did the team’s excellent planning allow the freshmen to enjoy the night, but it also allowed them to gain insight into possible events and other activities planned throughout the year. After the retreat, freshman Tyler Elken ’29 is excited for Jesuit events to come.

“[I’m most looking forward to] football games and the dances by far,” Tyler said. “Just sitting in the student section with friends, talking, cheering on my team.”

Administrators also took part in the fun of the night. Associate Director of Campus Ministry Ms. Alice Klarsfeld especially enjoyed the welcoming atmosphere at the event

“The highlight for me was when the Ground Crew were cheering the parents and the freshmen as they went for lunch along the hallway,” Ms. Klarsfeld said. “That was like so much energy and so much brotherhood that was shown.”

The Freshman Overnight Retreat stimulated the bonds between students and staff, and a communal experience between everybody involved.
