Holy Bowl 52 is here

The 52nd annual Holy Bowl kicks off this Saturday, Sept. 9, 2023 at 7 p.m. at Hughes Stadium.

Jesuit’s football season, so far, has had its highs and lows, and Head Varsity Football Coach Marlon Blanton is confident that his team will continue to improve.

“[This season has been] up and down,” Coach Blanton said. “Obviously, we wish we would’ve played better last week [losing 27-28 to St. Ignatius College Prep]. We’re getting better week by week, but it’s hard to judge the season with two games.”

Although Holy Bowl has a bigger audience, Coach Blanton emphasizes the team’s mentality of treating the Holy Bowl like any other contest.

“We’re just focusing on one play at a time, one down at a time,” Coach Blanton said. “Holy Bowl is still just football, so we’re trying to be good at football, and what we do and how we do it.”

This year, wide-receiver Caleb Dixon ’24 and the rest of the football team want every player to get some playing time.

“[Our goal] is to win,” Caleb said. “To get everybody else to play and having everybody get minutes in Holy Bowl has definitely been a goal for our team this year.”

The cheerleading team also looks forward to the game and hopes to inspire an energetic and loud crowd. Head Cheerleader Eoin Hempenstall ’24 wants the Galley Crew to fill the stadium with their cheers.

“I want constant noise, as loud as everyone can,” Eoin said. “I don’t want anyone to have enough of a voice to speak next morning and scream their lungs out all night.”

Tickets are still available for the 52nd annual Holy Bowl and can be purchased here. Adult tickets are $12 and student tickets are $9. Students also must show their student ID upon entry. Be sure to wear white for a student section whiteout.
