Jesuit Art Event draws in local artists
Today, Oct. 30, Jesuit High School Sacramento is hosting the annual Jesuit Art Event in Brebeuf Hall. The event brings artists from all over the community to showcase their artwork, with proceeds benefiting both the school and participating artists.
This year’s exhibition will feature 22 artists, all local to the Sacramento area, displaying a diverse collection of artworks.
“It’s a really fun way to see different ways to be creative and to show what inspires [each artist],” said Event Organizer Ms. Elizabeth Henning. “It’s fun to get to know who creates it, and kind of hear the backstory [of each artist].”
The event opened with a VIP reception on Thursday, Oct. 29 for returning buyers and supporters, followed by the public showing tonight, Oct. 30.
“[The VIP event] is our way of saying thank you to those who have continually supported us,” Ms. Henning said.
Founded in 2010, the art event has raised between $75,000 and $100,000, split evenly between the artists and Jesuit.
“[The art event] has grown in popularity both with the Jesuit community and the artists based on our success,” said alum parent Ms. Sheila Brown. “We have a reputation where the artist knows that the Jesuit community of current parents and alumni saved their art dollars to spend them at Jesuit to help benefit the school and then be able to take home a beautiful piece of art.”
The organizers are excited to show the variety of artwork on display.
“I have the pleasure of working with [Ms. Brown], and it’s so fun,” Ms. Henning said. “I get to see the artists and all their inventories, just seeing all the variety and all the different pieces.”
Attendees are encouraged to stop by, view the exhibits, and support the artists and the Jesuit community.
“Come and support the Jesuit and art community,” Ms. Henning said. “Come in and see the art; it’s a sight to see.”
The public event is in Brebeuf Hall on Oct. 30, and will run from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.. No ticket is required, simply show up and support Jesuit and local artists.
