This November, Jesuit Drama will present “My Pandemic Love Story,” an original production that delves into the experiences of students during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The play will be performed in Jesuit’s black box theater where Jesuit students have been  joined by students from Christian Brothers High School, Rio Americano High School, and St. Francis High School all collaborating to share their pandemic experiences.

Mr. Ed Trafton ’84, the Jesuit drama artistic director, wants to give students a voice to describe their experience over the COVID-19 lockdown.

“As a teacher, I’ve been asked hundreds of times by well-meaning concerned people:’ how are the students doing?’” Mr. Trafton said. “Better to hear from the students directly about this than from me.”

Mr. Trafton strives to tell students’ stories by using multiple artistic lenses. He prioritizes the unique experiences of students and the meaning behind them.

“The play will be told through monologues, scenes, movement, and music,” Mr. Trafton said.  “Our production will feature the stories and talents of our students who lived through this challenging time and who have something to say about it.”

Evan Pettibone ’24 has been a part of Jesuit drama for four years. Evan values making memories and bonding with all those participating in the play.

“Mr. Trafton is a great director,” Evan said. “I’m glad to personally have him this year for Hero’s Journey and everyone I’ve worked with has just been really fun to be with because it’s a really tight knit cast and crew.”

Jesuit Drama is an important part of student life at Jesuit because it allows students to spend time with each other.

“I’m excited to see all the friends I’ve made over the last few years,” said Stage Manager Parker Martin ’24. “I’m excited to make new relationships. It’s honestly just a wonderful place to be in general.”

The fall play continues to be a staple in Jesuit Drama, which is preparing to stage another brilliant performance this November. Everyone involved in its production has dedicated themselves to making a memorable and entertaining show for us all.
