The Jesuit High School Sacramento varsity basketball team was invited to the 2025 Wild West Shoutout tournament held in Reno, Nevada. The tournament is held every year as a fundraiser for the Sierra Kids Foundation, which works to help children with developmental disabilities.

The Marauders opened the competition with one of the best defensive games of the tournament. They held Spanish Springs to just under 20 points, with a final score of 62-19. From the start, the Marauders controlled the tempo and suffocated the opposing team’s offense.

Following the dominant start, Jesuit was matched up against a much more challenging opponent the next day, when they faced off against Bishop Gorman. Despite the momentum and confidence from their early win, the Marauders struggled early against Bishop Gorman, who were very efficient from the field, ultimately losing 55-68 after a couple of dagger three pointers.

Jesuit played their next and final match against the tournament’s host, the Bishop Manogue Miners. The game was a back and forth battle. While the Marauders played with sharp ball movement and unselfish play, Bishop Manogue countered with physicality and pace. Both teams led at different times throughout the game but a late fourth quarter surge by the Miners proved decisive, leading Jesuit to lose 69-64.

The tournament showcased Jesuit’s defensive efforts and team chemistry, setting the ceiling for the Marauders high as they hope to elevate throughout the season, just like last year’s state championship-winning team did.

The Marauders play their next game at home during the 51st annual  Fr. Barry Classic, against the Saint Mary’s Rams, on Thursday Dec. 11th.
