Jesuit’s Big Bash: A reunion of the brotherhood
This Friday, Sept. 26, the Department of Alumni Relations at Jesuit High School Sacramento will hold their annual Big Bash. The Big Bash will be held during homecoming weekend, and the whole family is welcome to attend this fun and festive outdoor event.
The Big Bash is an event designed to get alumni back on campus. It’s a chance to rekindle old friendships and memories of their time here on campus. This year, Alumni Relations Manager Mr. Josh Rojas ’00 is especially excited, as the event ties directly into homecoming.
“So what’s exciting about this year is that we got it tied to homecoming weekend,” Mr. Rojas said. “And so I think when people think [of] homecoming with high school, it’s getting alumni back on campus to gather, watch the football game, and reunite with friends who maybe they haven’t seen in [years]. In my case, it’s my 25th reunion, so there’s going to be a lot of people I’m excited to see who I haven’t seen since graduation.”
The Big Bash weekend encompasses numerous events. On Friday, the Big Bash will take place along with the Big Red Golf Tournament and milestone reunions for the 10th, 20th, 25th, and 50th year classes. On Saturday, Jesuit will hold campus tours for alumni, the Alumni Family Mass, and the class of 1975 50th Reunion Dinner.
The Big Bash is part of a weekend full of events, including the Big Red Golf Tournament, campus tours, a community Mass, and milestone reunions for the 10th, 20th, 25th, and 50th reunions, with the 50th reunion alumni receiving a golden diploma and dinner.
Mr. Rojas aims to foster alumni enthusiasm about the event.
“My role is just garnering excitement and reaching out to alumni to make sure they understand how much we want them back on campus,” Mr. Rojas said. “It’s helping spread the word, making phone calls, making sure people have the resources they need to contact their own class and just get as many people back to campus as we can. We want to entertain those folks who haven’t had a chance to see the lights, the field, all the upgrades around campus.”
The Jesuit Big Bash is more than just a party – it’s a chance to celebrate community, reconnect with old friends, and experience the spirit of Jesuit all over again.
“We don’t really have a theme. I think it’s just The Big Bash,” Mr. Rojas said. “Make it simple and make it more about connections and not really a theme to celebrate. I think the best, whether it’s Big Bash, whether it’s just a grad showing up on campus, is they start smiling as soon as they’re back on campus.”
