Marauders scavenged by Del Oro Golden Eagles
On Friday, Oct. 10, the Jesuit High School Sacramento varsity football team lost to the Del Oro Golden Eagles 29-16. The Marauders kept the score close until the fourth quarter, when the Golden Eagles managed to pull away.
The Marauder defense forced a three-and-out on the first possession of the game before the offense punted the ball right back to the Golden Eagles. On Del Oro’s next possession, the Golden Eagles went on a drive that spanned nearly eight minutes and 85-yards and resulted in a 4-yard passing touchdown. Del Oro converted on the two-point conversion to take an 8-0 lead.
Jesuit quickly responded on the following drive when quarterback Teddy Rios ’26 broke free from the defense en route to a 46-yard rushing touchdown. The ensuing two-point conversion was unsuccessful, making the score 8-6 with seven minutes left in the first half.
To end the first half, Del Oro went on a long 71-yard drive that resulted in another passing touchdown. The Golden Eagles converted on the Point After Touchdown (PAT) to extend their lead to 15-6 with just under a minute left in the half.
The Marauders were able to quickly drive down the field with kicker Yudiel “Dragon” Mondragon ’26 converting on a 42-yard field goal to cut the lead down to 15-9 going into halftime.
On the first possession of the second half, the Marauders took the lead on a 55-yard drive that ended in a 2-yard rushing touchdown from running back Miles Hubbard ’26. Dragon scored the PAT, giving Jesuit a 16-15 lead.
Following a turnover on downs and a punt, Del Oro ran through the Marauder defense and took a 22-16 lead right back on a 2-yard rushing touchdown with eight minutes left in the fourth quarter.
The Marauders weren’t able to get anything going on offense on the following possession and turned the ball over on downs. Del Oro capitalized on the turnover and scored a touchdown, giving the Golden Eagles a two possession lead, 29-16 with two minutes to go in the game.
Del Oro sealed the game with an interception on the next drive, winning the game 29-16.
Despite the loss, Jesuit once again showed how efficient their running game was as they rushed for 148-yards led by a 4 carry, 124-yard performance from Teddy. The defense also played well with three different players recording at least two tackles for loss and the team accounting for 10 total TFLs.
With this loss, Jesuit moves to 2-2 in league play, and 5-3 overall. Jesuit’s next game is this Friday, Oct. 24, at 7 p.m., against Folsom High School at Folsom. Tickets are available now – come out and support the Marauders.
