Unity through the Mother-Son Mass

The Mother-Son mass is a gathering for the students and their mothers to pray together, giving moms a chance to participate in the spiritual formation of their sons as members of the Jesuit High School community.

“It’s an opportunity to bring parents on campus, in this case, moms to support the spiritual growth of their sons and celebrate that Eucharist together,” said Director of Campus Ministry Mr. Adam McGrew ’15. “Jesus is at the center of a mother-son relationship, and Jesuit can respond to our mission to support families and family life.”

This mass offers a special time for mothers to share their support for their sons and for sons to show gratitude and support for the ones that care the most.

“A special symbol in the mass is the blessing that takes place between moms and sons,” Mr. McGrew said. “Mothers are asked to bless their sons and sons are asked to bless their mothers, which is kind of a unique ritual that’s really meaningful to really poignant for both moms and sons.”

Diego Fowley ’26 appreciates how this mass brings him and his mother together through sharing the journey she has supported him on.

“It was nice to be able to have my mom get a look into what she’s sending me to Jesuit to experience, and to be able to experience it with her was really special.” Diego said.

Mass will be held on Oct. 26, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. in the Phelan Chapel.
